The first sign of a worn out sway bar link is a knocking noise from the suspension when driving slow over road bumps. Each sway bar has two links which attach to the bar at one end and the vehicle s suspension at the other. In most cars a sway bar link has two small ball joints at each end. The stabilizer bar links attach to the lower control arm at the front end of most domestic and foreign cars and trucks sold in the united states.

Over time the sway bar link ball joints wear out. Cracking snapping sound from front wheels when turning. In certain cars the rear end will also have stabilizer bar links. So this is what the clunk sounds like when your front sway bar end links go bad.

Though not always the root cause front struts are often replaced for this condition. Worn sway bar bushings or sway bar end links may cause a rattling or clunking noise from the front suspension during low speed driving.
